Examiners’ use of rubric criteria for grading bachelor theses

Students are generally required to demonstrate diverse skills when writing their bachelor thesis. Accordingly, examiners expected consider all these assessing the thesis, regularly with one overall grade. In this study, we examine which criteria of a rubric contribute most assessment. The study is performed through quantitative analyses 318 theses undergraduate biology students. that scores predictive, but scientific quality and professional attitude give best prediction thesis grade, together structure. predictiveness correspond instructions given important consider. Presentation-related on expressing catchy justifying titles lowest This identifies some appear more predictive for low grades than high grades, being good predictor abstract grades. We recommend similar students help them prioritise relevant criteria, supervisors instruct education managers evaluate whether assessed they find relevant.
